BLUES FOR YOUTH
|Puget Sound Music For Youth Association (PSMFYA)
PSMFYA was created in 2009 as an off shoot from SSBA. We started out with 8 kids that were part of Randy Oxford's all age jams. As years went by more and more young musicians became more interested in the Blues. Of the 500 kids that have crossed the PSMFYA stages close to 100 have taken up learning the blues. In 2014 we had three bands from PSMFYA compete in the Back to Beale Street competition and sent one of the bands to the International Blues Challenge 2015 to be in the Youth Showcase. Since then we have overseen six youth bands go to Memphis that all grew from the PSMFYA program. We are an affiliate of the SSBA and enjoy working along side many talented blues artists connected to SSBA.

|Centrum Cephas and Wiggins Scholarship
SSBA is an annual donor to the CC&W Scholarship Fund, enabling promising young musicians an opportunity to participate in the week-long Country Blues Workshop at Fort Worden leading up to the Port Townsend Blues & Heritage Festival. The workshop provides participants a chance to live and play with the bearers of acoustic country blues traditions. The workshop's main focus is on the older, pre-war styles of blues, but attendees are also exposed to derivative forms as well. Daily classes are offered in Piedmont-style finger picking, blues guitar, slide guitar, harmonica, fiddle, mandolin, blues piano, blues singing and gospel choir, all taught by masters of the art. The festival usually begins on or near the first weekend of August.

|Ted Brown Music Outreach
Youth Instrument Gift Program
Working together with the Ted Brown Music Outreach program and Randy Oxford Entertainment, SSBA has to date provided over 85 youngsters with musical instruments. Many of these aspiring musicians can be seen performing live on stage at the All Ages Jam at Stonegate every 1st Saturday of the month. To change a child's life through an instrument donation, please contact Ted Brown Music Outreach directly or drop by when the kids are scheduled to jam. Let's all help this next generation on their journey to keeping the blues alive!
